Different Styles of Car Bike Racks
Over the years, manufacturers and innovators have spent their time designing and perfecting the car bike rack to suit the demands of consumers. Many car bike racks have come out of the market. Some of these styles have gone on to become popular products among biking enthusiasts.
Others, well, let us just say that they have served their time. Companies compete against one another, selling their bike racks with its different styles to many consumers who were left wondering which of those were more efficient and applicable to their needs. With the many styles available in the market, consumers are left to wonder what the advantages and disadvantages are of each style. This article will provide a brief explanation of the differences of the various bike rack styles.
The Trunk Mount is easy to attach to a vehicle. It is also easy to store if it will not be used. The Trunk Mount is also more affordable than the rest, and it can hold up to two bikes during transport.
Trunk Mount, however, poses a threat to the vehicle it is attached to. If the feet of the rack are dirty, it can act as sandpaper that can scratch off the paint of a vehicle. The bike, when attached to the rack, is too close the side of the car which, in turn, can produce scratches.
The Roof Racks are probably the most commonly used car bike rack. It is attached to the roof of a vehicle, and is oftentimes capable of transporting not only bikes but also other items like surfboards or canoes. Unlike the Trunk Mount rack, Roof Racks allow enough space between the bike and the car, thereby preventing the bike from creating scratches on the vehicle.
Although it poses little threat to the paint of a vehicle, a Roof Rack can cost a consumer four hundred dollars for a rack that can transport two bikes at a time.
The last type of car bike rack is the Receiver Hitch Rack. It is, by far easier to attach than the Roof Rack. The rack itself does not pose any threat to the paint of a vehicle since it is in contact only with the Receiver either through bolting or pinning.
However, Receiver Hitch Rack can only be used if a vehicle is equipped with a receiver. If a vehicle has none, a consumer has to spend at least two hundred dollars for the receiver alone.
