The year was 1982 when the first of many Epic Comics came off the printing press. This was a series of comics that had a targeted the older audience more than most comic books. For this reason the paper was of higher quality. The creator was employed by Marvel Comics and they were the parent company to this new line of comics.
This line of comics started with the super hero Dreadstar. The story line followed a war that occurred in outer space far from earth. Also in the early days of Epic comics was a Sci Fi thriller that involved super women warriors named "Six from Sirius".
At first the sales lacked the volume that was expected so new writers and artist were brought in and a ninja assassin character from the Daredevil comic book was developed. The character decide on was Electra. This boasted sales and soon more main stream Marvel super heroes were being made by Epic Comics. The Meltdown miniseries followed shortly after the introduction of Electra. This miniseries had some of the most famous of the X-men involved including Wolverine and Havok. Ironman made an appearance and was also very popular. Another Marvel character that made it to Epic comics was Silver surfer. These characters were very good choices and their popularity has since grown. Every one of them has been a character in a recent movie in the past 10 years that had great revenues in sales.
The late 1980's saw a decline in sales not only at Epic Comics but most other comic book printers. By the mid 1990"s with a almost total collapse in sales, they closed their doors. There was a brief resurgence in the 2000's but was again out of print by 2007.
